Diversity Matters is excited to support Sister District DC/VA/MD, State Bridges partners in Pennsylvania and the Woman's National Democratic Club for a walk across the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (Washington, DC) on Sunday, April 14. We are activating our volunteers across the country to raise money for two organizations in Pennsylvania, a key swing state in 2024: Pennsylvania Stands Up and Pennsylvania United.
The walk will end at All Purpose Pizza, where we will celebrate our phenomenal feat with cocktails and comestibles. All Purpose is located in the Navy Yards, just a short distance from the bridge.
Our crossing will begin at 11 am, rain or shine, at the southeast corner of the bridge in Anacostia. We will meet in the grassy area at the foot of the bridge. (More information here.)
Bring a bottle of water, comfortable shoes, AND your friends, and we will see you on April 14.
Pennsylvania Stands Up is a statewide organization made up of dues-paying members dedicated to winning a Pennsylvania that works for everyone. They organize for power across race, place, and generation.
Pennsylvania United is a grassroots organization with member-led chapters that build power for working-class families in Western PA. They develop long-term organizing relationships that reconnect working-class people to power, building a multi-racial working-class movement for statewide change.
Your contribution will help to build democracy from the ground up and ensure that everyone, no matter who they are, has a voice.
Diversity Matters is joining Sister District DC/VA/MD to canvass for Joshua Cole on October 15 and we are organizing carpools to leave from the DC area that day. All you have to do is show up, bring your friends, and help us knock on some doors! If you can help transport volunteers, great; if not, no problem! We will find a ride for you.
Canvassing is one of the most effective ways to increase voter turnout — and it's FUN if we do it together. Virginia's legislative elections can be very close. In 2021, Democrats lost the majority in the House by a total vote difference of 733 in the three closest districts. Joshua Cole's new 65th District is considered extremely competitive. Your canvassing efforts can make a critical difference!
On September 6, Sister District DC/VA/MD is joining Diversity Matters and members of WNDC who have formed a host committee for an evening with two amazing Virginia candidates, Lashrecse Aird and Joshua Cole! We'll have the opportunity to hear from the candidates about their work in the VA state legislature, goals for their districts, and how we can help them win in November.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 each for Lashrecse and Joshua, so please consider giving $50-$100 as part of this event.

Here’s your chance to spend a lovely fall day outside with friends - and talking to voters about issues that matter to all of us! We’ll be door knocking with our wonderful Diversity Pipeline Pledge champion Izzy Smith-Wade-El in Lancaster, PA, talking to Democratic voters about why it matters to vote in EVERY race, local, state or national!
Lancaster is a two-hour drive from Washington, DC and we will arrange carpools. The event times include driving times (leaving DC area approximately 9 a.m.), time for orientation, lunch and approximately 2 - 3 hours canvassing.
Please join Team Izzy for our Final Stretch Fundraiser at Tellus360 in Lancaster, PA! We'll gather on the green roof at 7pm on Oct 13 for food, music, and more. Together we'll celebrate the work we've done together so far and talk about our plan to win on Nov 8.

RIGGED: The Voter Suppression Playbook is an award-winning documentary that exposes the nefarious tactics used to suppress the vote and serves to spark discussion on the actions needed to protect our democracy.
Shot principally during the 2016 election, the film tracks a systematic, decade-long effort to reverse the impact of the growing demographic tide of non-white and younger voters who helped elect President Barack Obama in 2008. It details a variety of voter suppression “plays,” or tactics, ranging from the purging of voting rolls and passing of new, restrictive voter ID laws to gerrymandering and voter intimidation.
The film includes revealing interviews with Republican strategists detailing how the voter suppression game is played as well as cogent insights from leading voting rights advocates, law professors and Democratic strategists. It is narrated by Tony & Emmy award-winning actor, Jeffrey Wright.
This screening is co-sponsored by Do The Most Good Maryland, MoCoWomen, Six Hues, Indivisible, and They See Blue.
